PREP stands for Parish Religious Education Program. This is an Archdiocesan program of religious instruction for children in Kindergarten or Grades 1-7 who do not attend Catholic schools. Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation is included in the program. Catechists are needed for this program.
What is a job description for a catechist?
A catechist is one who will faithfully transmit the teaching of the Church to the students entrusted to them. You should be willing to take the time to pray and develop your own spiritual life. You should be conscientious in preparing and implementing lessons.
How do I prepare for this role?
There are many helpful courses, formation programs, workshops and retreats offered by the Archdiocese throughout the year. You should be willing to attend some of them. Being open to help and suggestions from the Coordinator in the preparation of lessons is useful. Leading a way of life that is consistent with Catholic standards is also a necessary quality as actions speak louder than words.
