Baptism

Welcoming a child into the Christian community is a special occasion as it celebrates God’s great love for us and provides time to reflect on the divine mystery of salvation.

If you are considering having your child baptized at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the following information may prove helpful in your preparations:

What is required of the parents?
At least one of the parents must be an active Catholic.  Attendance at a Baptism Prep Session is also required.

What if I am not a member of this parish?
If you are not a member of the parish, you require a letter from the pastor of the church at which you are registered for permission to baptize your child in our parish. If you are not registered at any parish, you should register at the church where you attend Mass most frequently.

What is required of Godparents?
By custom there are usually two godparents – one male and one female. Also required is one godparent who is a practicing Catholic and at least 16 years of age. A parent cannot serve as a Godparent and a proxy may stand in place of one Godparent.

Are there any fees
There is no fee, however, it is customary to give a donation to the parish.
